Pop as in blow. Might want to consider getting a beefer amp and a high pre-out deck. Like 4V minimum. That way you aren't annihilating the gain on the amp.
Make sure you have the crossover set right too. Don't have it try to play too low a freq. for which it was designed. Another good way to blow a sub.
